We are proud to welcome Aron Ecsedy to our network. Aron is show dancer, teacher and founder of www.milonga.hu , the major Hungarian Tango Website.
Aron started dance with competitive international latin american and ballroom dancing in 1993-2001, beginning from 1995 he studied jazz ballet, classical ballet, contemporary dance styles (mainly the Graham-method) and contact dance techniques. As a great fan of authentic tango music, he started to study Tango Argentino in 1999. He has been peforming in shows and teaching in Budapest and other Hungarian Cities ever since, including in such prestigious venues as the Hungarian National Dance Theater.
He has been a major motor behind the growth of the Hungarian Tango Community. His Website and a Tango related Yahoo Group have been the most important source on everything related to Tango in Hungary. Aron has maintained his website with a lot of dedication for many years, but he does not think of himself as a technician: "Actually I think it would be great if an international organisation could provide us in Hungary with a user-friendly websites, allowing Hungarian organizers to maintain there events in Hungarian and English. I find Tango-Club´s project very ambitious but absolutely useful. If the new website helps to bring the international Tango community closer together, I´ll be happy to support it."
As a special introduction to Tango in Hungary, Aron gives us some survival tips for enoying Milongas in Budapest:
Regular milongas are pretty casual and people wear street clothes. Special events, such as a Saturday night milonga during a workshop are a bit dressier. Please don't expect cabeceo (asking someone to dance by making eye contact) to always work. While some dancers here are aware of how it works, others aren't. While this may be unusual or intimidating, especially if you're a woman, it's best to walk up to the person and ask them. Most dancers speak English. All DJs play music in tandas of three or four songs; we do not, however, all play cortinas. Neither are you expected to clear the floor or change partners after each tanda, many people will dance two or three tandas with the same partner. All of the milongas have an admission fee. These vary between HUF 800-1000 (about EUR 4). Please pay the DJ/host when you arrive.Since all milongas finish early (by American and Western European standards), it's a good idea to arrive about half an hour after the start of the milonga.
